Archer Chicken Parmies

3/10/2011

I came straight home from work today, changed into my running gear and did a nice and easy jog along the river (about three slow miles). I was proud of myself for doing something active, since I really wasn't in the mood to do anything. I quickly earned those calories back with dinner, however.

Once I was all cleaned up, Al and I walked over the to Archer Hotel on O'Connell Street. They have $10 (AUD) chicken parmies from Monday-Thursday, and we really wanted to try them. Parmies are usually around $16-17, so this is a good deal.

Our chicken parmies were wonderful. It looks big on the plate below, but they are usually much larger. I still felt like I was going to throw up from eating too much (they are so delicious that I can't stop eating) but not to the same extent as I have in the past. This parmi was more of an Aussie portion than an American portion, if you know what I mean.

Like almost all Aussie chicky parmies, this one came atop fries and accompanied by a small garden salad. Not bad. Not bad at all. I love the salads, because they always have fresh veggies and are lightly tossed with a vinaigrette dressing. Al never eats his, so I almost always pick at his when we dine at pubs.

Oh yeah, and I eat my fries with a fork now. I'm sure my American friends will have a blast making fun of me the next time they catch me doing that.

We'll definitely go back to the Archer. They also have a burger and a beer deal for $15, which is very cheap. All in all, there are plenty of things I'd love to try on the menu. I could easily eat a chicken parmi every time I go there, but I know that there are some healthier options!
