Why Did I Ever Stop Pilates?

3/12/2011

This morning, I had my alarm set for 7 am so that I could go to an 8 am yoga class. Instead of waking up, I turned off my alarm and slept another two hours. Typical.

Around noon, I headed over to the gym for a pilates session. The gardens in between my home and the gym were as beautiful as ever.

As I walked home from the gym, I wondered to myself why I ever stopped doing pilates. I started it right after I graduated from college and moved back home. I struggled with it at first, but I was hooked after about six months. I did it several times a week, and I felt amazing. It toned my whole body (especially legs and core).

I continued to do it when I moved to Australia, but I did it less and less when I started working full-time. The last time I did it was right after I injured my leg, which would have been October. How did I stay away so long?

I left the gym this afternoon feeling incredibly limber and relaxed. Sitting hunched over a desk all day, five days a week, has really been taking a toll on my body. I also love the fact that it doesn't bother my leg. I actually think that it's good for my leg, because we do so much stretching (hence why I wanted to do yoga this morning).

The right leg pain is a whole other issue. It aches when I run months later, even though I rested it for over a month. I haven't been very responsible about using my Grid, so I'm going to attempt using it three times a day, stretching three times a day and doing yoga or pilates twice a week. I'd love to train for a half marathon, but I just can't do it unless I know that the injury won't get worse. These days, I won't run more than a 5K.

The Rest of Saturday
I have a wedding next week, so I set out to the city to look for a dress. I didn't find anything that I liked for the reception, but I did find something I liked anyway. I love halter dresses, and I couldn't resist this one. I figure that I can wear it to the ceremony, and I will get a lot of wear out of it after. I bought it from Forever New in Rundle Mall.

Al's parents also dropped off four chairs to go with the dining room table. They have eleven of the same chairs, and they sit in the shed all year. They were happy to part with a few of them. They look country-rustic.

I didn't do anything for the rest of the day. I walked around for three hours in the hot sun looking for a dress, and I collapsed on the couch (and slept for 30 minutes) when I got back. Al played cricket in the sun for six hours, so he wasn't up for much either. We had a Chevy Chase marathon ("Funny Farm" and "National Lampoon European Vacation" were on TV back to back), and now it's bed time.

Monday is a public holiday, so I get two more days of the weekend. Yay!

Pilates is fun, and so is yoga! But running is the best! Use your Grid so your leg gets better!

What holiday is Monday in Australia? Gee, you guys have more holidays!
